Before this enhancement arrived, the Reddit mobile app already had a feature similar to it.

Since Reddit wants to make its mobile application and desktop version similar to one another, it also launched the feature on the PC Reddit version.

“Starting today, Redditors will be able to upload images directly from the desktop in 18+ communities if you allow posts under the ‘post and comment settings’ in mod tools,” said the discussion website via its official Reddit post

The company added that this new desktop enhancement would allow its desktop version to have feature parity with its mobile apps.

According to TechCrunch‘s latest report, Reddit communities need to set their group to “18+” in order to use the new feature.

Why Reddit Released This Feature

Recently, Imgur, an American online sharing website and hosting service company, announced that it would ban NSFW photos.

Imgur confirmed that the adjustment would happen to start on May 15. It explained that its decision to restrict explicit images would protect its community in the future.

However, this is not good news for Reddit since adult Reddit groups rely on Imgur for their NSWF images.

Because of this, Reddit decided to release a new desktop feature that will allow native NSFW photo uploads on the website.

Of course, Reddit reiterated that the explicit images and videos uploaded on its website would be subject to safeguards against illegal or non-consensual content.

“This is also a good opportunity to take a moment to refresh yourself on our rules around the protection of minors, consent, and copyright,” added Reddit.
