Mozilla’s Fakespot Acquisition to Help Users Identify Fake Shopping Reviews!


Mozilla’s Fakespot acquisition will help Firefox users easily identify fake shopping reviews.

The tech company announced this startup purchase in May. 2. However, Mozilla didn’t provide how much it cost to acquire the browser extension provider. 

In its official blog post, Mozilla said that commerce had been one of the main reasons why people access the internet. 

However, numerous challenges revolving around online commerce also arose. 
This is why Mozilla decided to buy Fakespot to bring a trustworthy online shopping experience to users.

According to Tech Crunch‘s latest report, Mozilla will take advantage of Fakespot’s offerings.

The tech giant company will use these to sport fake shopping reviews on various online marketplaces, including TripAdvisor, Yelp, and Amazon. 

“Fakespot will continue to work across all major web browsers and mobile devices,” dedicated users,” said Steve Teixeira, Mozilla’s Chief Product Officer. 

Teixeira added that the Mozilla team would invest in continuing to enhance the Fakespot experience for its dedicated consumers.

Fakesport is a New York-based company that relies on machine learning systems and artificial intelligence.

The browser extension provider uses these two technologies to identify patterns and similarities among reviews. With this, Fakespot can easily detect deceptive shopping and other online reviews. 

Thanks to the latest acquisition made by Mozilla, Fakespot can now bring its advanced features to Firefox. Teixeira said that users could expect future Fakespot integrations that are exclusive to Firefox.
