Elon Musk’s X, Formerly Twitter, Revises Requirements for Creator Payout Program

Social media platform X, previously known as Twitter, owned by Elon Musk, has announced a reduction in the eligibility criteria for its creator payout program.

According to TechCrunch, the company revealed that content creators who have accumulated five million impressions within the past three months will now qualify for ad revenue sharing, marking a significant decrease from the previous requirement of 15 million impressions.

In addition to the lowered eligibility threshold, X has also revised the minimum payout limit. Creators can now withdraw earnings as low as $10, compared to the previous threshold of $50.

Elon Musk’s Extra Provision

However, certain prerequisites still apply. Creators must be verified users with at least 500 followers to be eligible for payouts.

X issued an official statement expressing the company’s commitment to providing more individuals with the opportunity to monetize their content through the platform’s ad revenue-sharing program.

The statement highlighted the lowered eligibility criteria and the reduced minimum payout threshold as steps toward enabling a broader range of users to participate.

Following the announcement, Elon Musk introduced an extra provision to the updated regulations, wherein he underscored that ad-revenue sharing would exclusively take into account impressions originating from verified accounts.

He expressed concern over the potential misuse of the system, highlighting the risk of scammers utilizing automated bots to boost view numbers unnaturally.

“This essentially means that X Premium (fka Twitter Blue) is free for accounts that generate above 5M views. Note, only views from verified handles count, as scammers will otherwise use bots to spam views to infinity,” Musk wrote in an X post.

However, there is a lack of clarity regarding how creators can access information about the number of verified views or impressions their posts have received. Presently, X does not offer users a method to verify their posts as “verified views.”

X Creator Payout Program

The creator payout program was initiated by X in July, with eligible creators receiving compensation. Later in the same month, the program was extended to verified creators on a global scale.

Elon Musk previously mentioned that the initial block of creator payouts would approximate $5 million. X recently experienced a surge in sign-ups, leading to a delay in the scheduled payout for July 31.

Musk acknowledged the overwhelming interest among content creators in ad revenue sharing and assured that payouts would be processed soon.

In related news, X’s CEO, Linda Yaccarino, has officially announced the forthcoming introduction of video chat functionality on the platform. This upcoming feature aligns with X’s vision to transform into a comprehensive “everything app.”

The addition of video chat aligns with X’s broader strategy of offering various features, including long-form videos, streamlined payment options, and enticing creator subscription choices, aiming to enhance users’ digital experiences across multiple dimensions.
